Sauce Boss Gazette
Volume 7 Number 1 January 1999

Hold on! Git on the mother ship, we're goin' into cyberspace. I'm talkin' about "out there". Da blues will set your computer free. Because of the increasingly enormous expense of snail mail, we will not be sending out our paper newsletter prior to our concerts anymore. We plan to send out an annual edition of the paper "Sauce Boss Gazette", but fans who have depended on receiving the printed Gazettes need to subscribe to the e-mail list. They can also contact their local venues to ask to be added to venue mailing lists. The concert listings are also available at the sauceboss.com website. If you know somebody who has e-mail, who would like to receive the gazette, sign ‘em up! Come to sauceboss.com and subscribe. Spread the word. If you know a fan who doesn't have e-mail, print ‘em out a copy of the e-mail newsletter. You can help the Sauce Boss by telling the world about this one of a kind experience! I can almost smell the gumbo right now. Can you? Thank you for your support, Bill Wharton a/k/a the Sauce Boss

YBOR CAFETERIA 1235 E. HILLSBOROUGH AVE. TAMPA (813)237-1847 Scattered among the strip joints, and fix it shops in Tampa, is The Ybor Cafeteria. "I like the two sizes of plates", says Ruth (regular at 5.89, the saver at 4.69) each with entre, "starch"(they said it, not me), veggie, soup or salad, and bread and butter. She adds,"1.99 for black beans and rice" All the typical Cubano cuisine-picadillo, loma salteado, boliche, carne con papa,(whatever that is...) Chicken--caserola, and also friedis served daily. Roast pork on Friday and Saturday with daily specials of oxtails, pigfeet, spaghetti and meatballs, and BBQ ribs. Perks Ruthie, "Oxtails on Tuesday!" Points of interest--plantains, white bean and collard green soup, Spanish bean soup, and the black beans and rice, with extra fresh onions, is required reading. An extensive breakfast menu is also available, but I can never escape the plantains. So the Sauce Boss says, "I need to get a speaker repaired across the street at the Speaker Exchange. Why don't we slide on down to the Venus Flytrap while we wait?" "I don't think so!!!" "Boy, these black beans are good! Pass the Liquid Summer, please?

GRATEFUL DAY CAFÉ 6615 N. ATLANTIC AVE. CAPE CANAVERAL, FL 32920 (407)783-7330 When you're flyin' down the highway, the hardest thing to find is good vegetables. Nothing makes my body and soul feel better than a good, hearty, organic vegetable meal. While in Brevard County, The Grateful Day is the place. Not just your carrot juice, and hummus sandwich kind of place, but INTERESTING meals. Pan-global salad plates, and fabulous lunch and dinner plates, accompany the normal sprout-head bill of fare. And if this ain't enough! The bread... fresh bread... bread and muffins baked every night. . . bread made with love!... made by... your friend and mine... (the crowd goes wild again) ... MR.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! That's right, the famous radio personality, blues DJ extraordinare!... is cookin' in the kitchen. Yeah! Z got hisself a side gig just like the Sauce Boss. Right on, Daddyo. You bake a righteous blueberry muffin! Right next to the Sunseed Food Coop, the Grateful Day should be a regular stop. Check out the CARROT DOG. It's fabulous! I came home and had to make one myself. Here's how I did it: roast a carrot, put it in a hot dog bun, top with sauerkraut and mustard. That's livin! Check out Gary Zajac's show "It's All the Blues" Saturday nite on WUCF in Orlando

. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE FAMILY... SO HERE IT IS... Most of you know that my wife, Ruthie, keeps me on the road, booking the band and manages the business. She just bought me a laptop, and now the computer neanderthal is helping her tear the place up, so that she can spend more time being a grandmother. Daughter Annie just graduated with a BFA from the University of Miami (with honors) and is currently kicking the Miami art scene's ass. Annie was our publicist before she moved to Miami. Meanwhile, Mary (VH-1 hotshot) is in India on a five-week sabbatical. Mary helped with our upcoming CD-ROM cookbook/album. Floyd (the Liquid Summer Dude) is building a house for his brood. Heavy nesting going on 'round our neighborhood. Floyd's wife, Kerrie, helps keep our office together. Their daughter, Emma, started walking at 9 months. We haven't found a job for her yet, but I'm sure we will.
