sb in 9th ward

Here’s the Sauce Boss jamming for the residents and volunteers of the 9th Ward in NOLA.  This was one of the many Planet Gumbo Shelter Shows done over the last four years.

Whoa! This flying around all the time will make yer head spin.  I’m glad to be close to home for a minute. Lake Worth, Tampa, Orlando, Beaufort, SC, Hilton Head. And then, BIKETOBERFEST.  Yep, we’re playing the Daytona Beach Bandshell on October 19, so tell all yer motorcycle ridin buddies to make the gig and ride SAFE.

We have been getting a lot of requests for t-shirts for Planet Gumbo.  We just set up the Planet Gumbo on-line store with Café Press. You are not going to believe how many different items there are to choose from.  There’s t-shirts galore, jackets, sweatshirts, dog shirts, baby and kid items, coffee mugs, bags and more.  All of our profits from the sales of these items ($5 per item) go to the charitable work of Planet Gumbo.  It’s getting close to the gift-giving season and now is the time to shop with a purpose. SAUCE BOSS T-SHIRTS SOON COME

AND DON’T FORGET . . . a case of Liquid Summer Hot Sauce can answer a lot of questions about what to give Uncle Henry or the guy whose office is on the way to the water cooler or to the UPS delivery guy who brings you all kinds of good stuff. Order yours today. Holiday season is just around the corner.

LIQUID SUMMER AVOCADO AND TOMATO SANDWICH
There’s been times when I have lived on these things: Slice up an avocado, tomato, onion, and some good cheddar cheese. Toast yer bread and slather it with mayo and Liquid Summer Hot Sauce.  Hold the samich in one hand and the bottle of Liquid Summer in the other. Doctor each bite with a little or a lot.  It don’t get no better than this.

GRACIE’S

Another case of a line out the door, Gracie’s is a very popular place located right next to Alcoa, a town named after the Aluminum Company of America.  Alcoa conjures up all kind of visions of historical patriotic industry.  Nestled in the valley at the foot of the Smokies, home of hillbillies, shiners, and whiskey runners, Alcoa was an important strategic asset during World War Two.  Actually during the big one, this sleepy little burg was bustling with international intrigue.  Aluminum was at such a premium, that Adolf Hitler sent a team of spies to blow up the factory.  Unfortunately for Adolf, their plans were foiled.  Heh heh heh.  It’s the stuff that movies are made of.  Or at least situation comedies.  Can’t you see it?  Hitler meets Jed Clampett. The Nazi agents trying to blend in with the mountain folk.  Of course one of them would have to fall in love with Ellie May.  She’s so…Aryan.  But those dang Nazis are no match for Uncle Jed’s squirrel gun or Granny’s shenanigans either.
However, I digress.  What I really want to talk about is Gracie’s White bean and ham soup.  Below is a happy customer who comes to Gracie’s every Thursday just to have a huge bowl of comforting goodness.  It’s the special every Thursday, and it’s fabulous.
guy with bean soup
One bowl will easily feed two people and also provide an evenings entertainment as well.  Crumble up yer cornbread into the soup and dowse it with some Liquid Summer Hot Sauce.  On the menu, any meat item and two veggies are just $5.59.  The meatloaf is purdy good. Sliced fresh tomatoes, cornbread salad, turnip greens, liver and onions, cornbread muffins, banana puddin made fresh daily, homemade fried apple or peach pies.  Let me out of here.  Voted “Best Country Cooking in Blount County”.
