Stonewall Farms and
Tooky Mills Pub
Hillsborough, New Hampshire
People tell me I am crazy to spend part of my winters in the north. They say: Whada ya doin coming way up here, when you could be sitting on a beach somewhere? Well, I gotta say, there is plenty of good times to be had in the winter in the north country. We had a rockin good time in Hillsborough, New Hampshire back in February. We arrived in a snow storm and were given shelter at the Stonewall Farm B&B, a farm house built in 1785. This place is known for over the top hospitality, rustic character, a pantheon of friendly ghosts walking the halls when the place settles into sleep, and three Labrador retrievers ready to walk with you in the stone silent forest. Try the French toast stuffed with sour cream and blueberries with maple syrup drizzled over em. Oh MAN! The blueberries are grown in the back yard.
For lunch or dinner, local Tooky Mills Pub is totally charming. An old stocking factory now houses this chef owned and operated restaurant/pub. It has a dining room with twelve tables. Like Hemmingway’s “Clean, Well Lighted Place”, it is a cheery, warm shelter in the storm from the maelstrom of toil and tribulation that we all endure. The menu is very eclectic. The mussel appetizer with a creamy wine chipotle broth begs for the homemade bread to sop up the juice. Or the Trad Irish Bangers and Mash app is hearty enough for a meal in itself, yet it weighs in at $5. How bout artichoke hearts stuffed with crabmeat, or better yet fresh whole fried clams melting in your mouth. Stop, stop, stop it NOW. But wait…there’s more! Do not forget about the main course. Butternut squash ravioli with grilled chicken and prosciutto. I could go on, but let’s just say that everything on the menu is great. Then there is the pub. Wiley, the resident Springer Spaniel, has the run of the place and can be seen hopping up on a bar stool to hang with his “peeps. All in all, a jovial atmosphere permeates the whole place. Our stay in Hillsborough was a special time for us. The food was fabulous, the natural setting was gorgeous, the history and character of the place was so cool, however, the hospitality and company was the best part of all.

LIQUID SUMMER HOT Q MEATLOAF
OK, Maria and Denny emailed me requesting my meatloaf recipe. It has been years since I I made a meatloaf, with my heart conscious attitude these days. Its not that I never eat meat, its more like this stuff is so good, I tend to binge on it and I don’t need the temptation. You see that meatloaf just sits there in the refrigerator, seductively calling my name. You know how great a next day meatloaf sandwich can be. Back when I was a serious carnivore, I would cut the day old meatloaf into 1/2 inch slices and warm it up in a frying pan. Served on toasted whole grain bread with lettuce, mayo, a little catsup, and plenty of Liquid Summer Hot Sauce. It is sooooo good! I gotta stop this. Anyway, this is my Hot Q Meatloaf recipe.
Back by popular demand. Enjoy!
2 pounds of ground beef
1/2 green pepper, diced
1 large onion chopped
3 slices toasted bread, crumbled up
1 pound of mushrooms sliced 1/2 inch thick
2 eggs
Liquid Summer Hot Q Sauce
Mix all except for the mushrooms and the BBQ Sauce
Put a layer of the mixture in the bottom of a frying pan leaving 2 or 3 inches around the edge. Cover the meat with the mushrooms.
Repeat the layering until the meat mixture is all used up. Cover the top with Liquid Summer Hot Q. Fill the empty space in the pan with small potatoes. Bake at 350 degrees for about 2 hours or until done
To bring out more of the peach flavor of the Hot Q, you might wait to put the sauce on until 20 or 30 minutes before taking the loaf out of the oven.

If you do not have any Hot Q, then get on the stick and order some. RIGHT HERE! When your down and out, can’t find the good foot, try some hot sauce on it!
SEE YA!
