Sauce Boss Gazette
Volume 14 Number 7 • October 10, 2006
Here we are in Ireland and it's more beautiful than I remember it being. After we made the flight, we had a pint... and another... and another...The trip has been great, with good folks at the gigs and killer performances. Big Daddy Webster has been a good support act, and Peach and Dale are helping us with the merch and set up. Here's the entire entourage with Dermot O'Callaghan, the Boss of Ireland, at a pub in Killarney. We're about to have another pint. See y'all in sunny FLA.

NEW SAUCE BOSS CD

For years, my friends all over the place have requested an album of slide guitar blues. And now it’s available--Sauce Boss FLORIDA BLUES. You can order it at sauceboss.com or from CD Baby or download it to your I-pod on i-Tunes. “Florida Blues” is a retrospective album that contains some songs from my Kingsnake Records CDs no longer in print, along with some more recent recordings. It features Lucky Peterson, Kenny Neal, Bob Greenlee, Tony Coleman, The Kingsnake Studio Band and of course, THE INGREDIENTS!

“Florida Blues” includes my most requested songs, and it’s all BLUES. “Florida Blues” swims with the gators, sails with the smugglers, and drops a postcard with the blues right in your mailbox. It’s the perfect companion to take to the beach.

THIRD SAUCE BOSS PODCAST RECORDED IN THE COUNTRY’S LARGEST HOMELESS SHELTER

The Podcast show begins with Street Sound Percussionist Bernard Aljaleen in Chinatown, Washington DC.

On December 12, 2003 The Sauce Boss took his Gumbo Show to The Community for Creative Non-Violence in Washington DC (The largest homeless shelter in the country with 1,200 clients). This is the only live recording of Sauce Boss’ famous cookin’ demonstration.

The Podcast also contains an interview with bluesman Eddie Shaw, who played with Howlin’ Wolf for 17 years and talked to the Sauce Boss this summer at a Blues Fest in Buffalo, NY about what he likes to cook.

Where is Planet Gumbo? A brief history and description can be found on the Podcast. Here’s an easy way to help Planet Gumbo by using GoodSearch by Yahoo. JAPAN FOOD AKI RESTAURANT
REPUBLIC SQUARE
7460 Universal Blvd. Orlando , Fl 32819 407-354-0025
How bout a down home sushi bar? Is there such a thing? Whenever I go to the sushi bar, it’s a hole in my pocket to the tune of sixty-eighty bucks, but Aki in Orlando is proof that it does not have to be that way. Nestled in the back of a little strip mall just off of International drive, it’s easily missed. I would have never found it but I just had a feeling. Hmm, maybe there’s something good to eat back here. And bingo, I hit the jackpot. Aki is a charming restaurant, not because of fancy décor, not because of exotic, over the top menu. The menu is simple and the ambience is Spartan, but it is charming because it’s Family. When I walked in, nobody in the place was speaking English. There’s a little library of Japanese books, in the hall on the way to the restroom, and the whole vibe is super laid back. The waitress, Haru, describes it as “authentic”. For $18, the sashimi deluxe is a good buy, as well as all the other items on the menu. Dollar sushi is another plus. The real value of Aki is the total genuineness of this gentle little endeavor, like a wild flower blooming by the road side. Aki is situated in the belly of the giant mouse that has consumed South Orlando, however when you walk in the room, you might think you’re in Japan.
