THE NEXT BEST MEAL
I EVER HAD

So it was my last day in Paris. What do you do on your last day in Paris? Stock up, of course. A little stroll on the Ile St. Louis will give you the opportunity to find everything you need for your train ride picnic or your airborne stash of goodies. As you walk behind the Notre Dame, cross the little bridge onto the Ile. (where, reputedly the best ice cream and sorbet in France is sold (at Bertillion). Head down the street and to the right there is a tiny grocery store. This itty bitty shop has a good selection of wine at good prices. I found this bottle of Saint-Estephe for seven and a half Euros. The grocer looked at my choice approvingly. Certainly some of the best Bordeaux I ever had. I also picked up some Black Currants and Cherries.
Further up the street, on the left is my most favorite fromagerie in the whole of France. When you walk into this place, the smell of biological cultures knocks you down. Blue and green and cream, wood ashes, milk from cow, sheep, goat, processing naturally with the strains of bacteria collected for centuries in every corner of France, mingling to a climax of funk that would put George Clinton to shame. So I picked a couple, and I always ask for a recommendation from the proprietor, picked also a piece of Toulouse Sausage, and thusly armed with Baguette, Croissant, and a bottle of Vittel, I’m good to go. I tell you what. When you’re holed up in your room in Amsterdam with the munchies, there’s nothing better.

We have had a super summer of traveling, jamming, and eating! Thanks to all the venues, and a very large “Thank you” to all the crowds who went the distance to see us.

Chow!
