WE'RE COMIN'! WE'RE COMIN'!
WE'RE COMIN'! WE'RE COMIN' BACK TO KEY WEST ONE MORE
TIME! TAMPA TOO!
I'm goin swimming with the sharks. May have to look
up my ol' buddy Barry Cuda for a laid back open-air
jam. I'm aready on island time. No worries . Relax mon.
Soon Come. Speaking of islands, how did you guys on
Longyland get so wild? Were you bottle fed? Did yer
momie take away your blankey at too early an age? Are
you pent up from all the traffic from NYC? What's the
deal? Whatever it is, I love it. What a great time we
had at Big Daddy's. Son, look out!
Here's where
we'll be.
ROASTED GARLIC AND FETA
Take four heads of garlic and cut the top off so you
can just see the fresh garlic cloves
Put olive oil in the bottom of a small frying pan
Put olive oil all over the garlic and roast in the oven
(350 degrees) until soft.
Spread Feta on sourdough toast and squeeze the garlic
on top.
Feeds one at my house!
SCORSESE HAS THE BLUES
Even a big time movie maker gets the blues sometimes.
I was lucky to see a screening of one of the shows being
aired on PBS this week when I was in New York last month.
This is by far the best TV documentary I've seen on
the subject. Footage heretofore unseen coupled with
a great depth of knowledge makes this required reading
for anyone who listens to music. Check it out on your
Public Television station all this week.
COOKIE'S KITCHEN
5 GEIGER ROAD, GEIGER KEY MARINA
(305)293-6277
No menu, just good homemade food. Nothing over twelve
dollars, makes this a real find in the Keys. Daily specials
include: Thursday-deep fried turkey, Friday- prime rib,
Saturday- roasted pig, Sunday- BBQ. This is a great
setting for a laid back meal. Watch the Cuban guys with
hand lines snagging dinner right there at the boat ramp.
The chef, Christopher Ross, is a master at the grill.
Makes his own sausage for breakfast. Plus lobster bisque,
conch chowder, and burgers. Good stuff. Southernmost
Gophers will bring it to ya if you can't get up.

PLANET
GUMBO STRIKES AGAIN
After playing shelters in New York City and Springfield,
Illinois, we decided to pay a visit to Mel Eby at The
Shelter in Tallahassee. One of the main objectives of
Planet Gumbo is to get help directly to those in need,
without a huge, top-heavy bureaucracy soaking up funds
in between donor and recipient. I bumped into Mel in
the mall about a month ago. He was buying a bunk bed
for a young man and his five year old daughter who had
both moved into his office at the Shelter. Thanks to
Mother Mel, thousands of homeless people have received
shelter from the storm. Now he's giving up his office
space.
The Board of Directors of
Planet Gumbo were so touched by this guy's selflessness
that we had to do something. So we dipped into the Planet
Gumbo account and wrote a 500 dollar check for their
emergency fund. Mel said It couldn't have come at a
better time. They were finding housing for a grandmother
and five kids at a local motel. With winter coming on
these guys could use some help.
