THE MUDDY RUDDER
INGONISH HARBOR, CAPE BRETON ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
As you travel around the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia there's a stop you might want to make in Ingonish Harbor. The Muddy Rudder is the perfect lunch break if you like FRESH lobster, clams, mussels, or steamed crab with melted butter. Potato salad, cole slaw, and fresh homemade rolls accompany the lobster or crab dinners. Appetizers? Steamed mussels or clams. For the lighter fare are lobster or crab rolls with cole slaw. Also seafood chowder with a homemade roll, hot dog and ice cream. That's the entire menu. All served on picnic tables. Next to this infinitesimally small kitchen/take out counter there is a tiny cabin for shelter in bad weather, but on a picture perfect 65 degree July afternoon, who wants to be inside anyway? This is the classic lobster shack-no frills, plenty of local color, friendly Cape Breton dialect spoken, heatin' up the lobsters, talkin' 'bout the weather, and "where are you from anyway? Oh, I could never take the humidity down there!" Absolutely the best tasting lobster I ever had! Full of roe and all kind of gross drippy gunky stuff! Delicious! Open daily 11am-8pm.
Kudos to Mace Fleeger, who designed the new look for our website and also designed the album cover for "Sky Blues". More to come, stop back by.
