"SEND YA BOY IN THE ARMY A BIG SALAMI" The salami sign, suspended from the ceiling, slowly rotates as the currents of warm air rise from the grill and steamer at Katz's Delicatessen. (205 E. Houston St., New York, 1-800-4-HOTDOG Famous for its salami, pastrami, corned beef, and basically everything Kosher, it's a great place for lunch. The pastrami and corned beef is kept in large steamers, keeping the meat moist and tender. If you're on the Lower East Side, take a walk to Katz's. In fact you'll need the exercise after the calories are counted. For one hundred and thirteen years they've been slinging hot dogs, chopped liver, lox, knockwurst, knishes, pickles--all the classic Kosher deli food--and they're still going strong. Thank you letters from four or five American presidents hang in the window. This is the real deal. Over in the next block is Russ and Daughters. Herring and salmon from all over the world. A gourmet's dream.

PROUD POP DEPARTMENT If you're in Miami in June, go see my daughter Annie's show at the Kevin Bruk gallery. Annie Wharton has been a strong and positive voice for women's issues in the Miami art scene. From her press release: "I apply acrylic paint to patent vinyl with cookie cutters and potato mashers to create lyrical abstractions that are not immediately recognizable for what they are. If you were to deconstruct the imagery, you could find deeper meanings. My images are meant to challenge gender identity, the feminine aesthetic and the idea of 'women's work'." The opening reception is on Thursday, June 14, at 7-10 p.m. (DJ & Booze) Gallery info: Kevin Bruk Gallery, 3930 NE 2 Ave, Miami, phone:305.576.2000. Open Wed-Saturday 11-6.

THANK YOU J.B. After eleven years, our keyboard player, J.B., is taking a break: working on his own album and charting his own musical destiny. He will be missed by gumbo heads, friends, and the Ingredients, but none will miss him more than I. God Bless You, John Babich
